I pair Keyword Planner with Google Trends, which does something no other tool can: it shows you whether interest in a topic is growing, stable, or declining. This is crucial. A keyword with 500 monthly searches and a rising trend is far more valuable than one with 1,000 searches that's been declining for two years. I check Google Trends for every keyword I'm seriously considering.

My Keyword Research Process — Step by Step
